Dan grew up near Akron, Ohio. He is the oldest of his 3 siblings, Scott, Jon, and Beth. Emily (Hose) is from Hagerstown, Maryland. She was home schooled and went to Cedarville University in Ohio.
Dan and Emily met at Cedarville in their freshman year and began dating by the spring of 2004. We were both unsure of our majors and what God wanted us to do. It seemed as if God was closing the door to Dan finishing college at Cedarville. In the spring of 2005, Dan moved in with Emily's grandparents to establish a career in Maryland. After Emily graduated, we were married in May 2007.
Soon after we were married, we believed God was directing us into full-time ministry. We were just unsure of what that meant. After seeing how divorce affects families, God gave us a passion to minister to couples and families.
In November 2008, we volunteered at our first Weekend to Remember Getaway in Philadelphia, PA. By the end of the weekend, we were completely amazed at how God was using this ministry to touch people's lives and marriages. God used this to open our minds and hearts to what He had planned for us. In January 2009, we began the process of applying and interviewing with FamilyLife. We toured the home office, located in Little Rock, Arkansas in June. A few months later, we were comissioned as missionaries with Campus Crusade for Christ. Dan is an Event Planner! This is a fancy way of saying that I work with about 20-25 other staff to plan and organize the 130-150 Weekend to Remember Getaways around the country each year. I am super excited to serve in this role. I personally direct the planning of about 10-12 live events each year. Each getaway takes a little over 3 months to plan and organize. Some of the parts include getting the speaker team ready, working with local volunteers to organize the weekend (about 1,000 volunteer couples serve FamilyLife around the country), and traveling to the site for the weekend to make sure the whole thing goes off without a glitch. What an honor to serve in this way. Each year, because of these weekend events we witness God restoring countless marriages and drawing thousands to Himself as Redeemer. Emily serves as the Corporate Guest Service Coordinator! This is an exciting new position within FamilyLife. I serve by communicating with businesses and companies all over the country to establish a benefit package that they can use to send their employees to a Weekend to Remember. We are seeing companies coming to FamilyLife on their own asking how we can serve them in this way! I will also have the flexibility to travel with Dan to the Weekend to Remember Getaways that he is planning. What an awesome opportunity to give companies, Christian and secular, the chance to send their employees to a weekend getaway with their spouse to not only better their marriage, but to share Christ with them. |
